Prenatal visits to our office are welcome. This allows you to meet our staff and get answers to any questions you may have regarding your new baby and this most exciting time.
We are affiliated with Oishei Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, South Buffalo Mercy Hospital and Sister’s Hospital. The hospitalists at the respective hospitals will take care of your baby while you are in the hospital. When the baby is discharged please call our office to make an appointment for the baby to be seen within 24-48 hours.
Breastfeeding and human milk are the normative standards for infant feeding and nutrition.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for about six months, followed by continued breastfeeding as complementary foods are introduced, with continuation of breastfeeding for one year as long as mutually desired by mother and infant. Breastfeeding is a natural but learned method.
Our nurse practitioner is a Certified Lactation Consultant. She is ready to support moms and babies in this endeavor.
Successful breastfeeding is based on the simple principle of positive feedback. Babies suckling on the breast stimulates the production of milk. Any interruption of this feedback cycle (i.e. the baby sleeping longer than four hours, bottle feeding, poor suckling) will interfere with the mother’s milk production.
